ASUU strike update: The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is set to declare openly an indefinite strike as the federal government has ceased to function to meet up with its demands. It was learnt that most of the over 123 branches of the union have accepted the final decision at their various congresses; others are expected to conclude theirs on Wednesday, August 24, The Nation reported.
Indefinite strike vote
According to source, “None of the branches, including the University of Abuja, voted for anything other than an indefinite strike.”

ASUU is scheduled to meet on Monday, August 29, to decide on the government’s proposal to call off the six-month-old strike. The result of the meeting would also infer whether the government would proscribe the union as being contemplated. However, ASUU national chairman, Emmanuel Osodeke, said the government offer was only in the newspaper, and nothing has been officially presented to the union.
